ESS IN THE REAL WORLD Episode 03: How Much Inverter Power Does Your ESS Need?
Battery capacity tells you how much energy you can store.
Inverter power tells you how much power your ESS can deliver at one time.
And this difference is critical.
When sizing an inverter, engineers should look at:
🔹 Maximum continuous load
🔹 Peak load
🔹 Motor starting current
🔹 Air conditioners & pumps
🔹 Simultaneous load operation
🔹 Backup load requirements
For example:
A system may have 20 kWh of battery capacity, but that does not automatically mean it can support a 10 kW load.
👉 kWh determines energy capacity.
kW determines power capability.
A well-designed ESS needs the right balance between both.
